The Devil's Spine Mountains

General: The Devil’s Spine Mountains are the northern most chain of mountains enclosing the valley and separating it from environments and inhabitants of the Frostfell. The Devil’s Spine Mountains stretch for several hundred miles, running the length of the coastline of the North Sea. The mountains are generally thought to be nigh impassable with high, rugged peaks that are almost constantly battered by ice storms or howling winds. They derive their name from the reddish shade of rock that makes up a majority of the mountains. When the sun hits them just right, the mountains take on the color of fresh blood.

Creatures: Many creatures call the Devil’s Spine Mountains home. Tribes of goblinoids lurk within the many caves winding through their recesses, many are content to wage petty wars and battles with each other, but occasionally they venture out to harass the more civilized lands. Dragons (usually red or white, but the rare silver or bronze is not entirely unheard of), hill giants, stone giants, and wyverns are other typical residents of the mountains, though they are much less common. Rumors also abound of cloud giant fortresses hidden within the very highest peaks of the mountains but what paths there are to reach such places are likely not for typical mortal creatures to tread.
